phpBB Security Risk

You might have noticed some SPAM bots around our forums this past week. Apparently, phpBB has been hacked on their main site and the software security has been funky.

I'm looking into ways to counter this ... most likely I will install some sort of anti-bot mod. Will keep you posted.

According to phpBB, the software itself hasn't been compromised. I wonder how the spambots got so crazy all of a sudden.

Anyway, I added a custom profile field to member registration. Details here: http://phpbbcom.phpbbservice.nl/kb/arti ... -tool.html.

Hopefully that will put the spambots at bay ... for now.

Removed visible traces of the spambot custom field, as it was showing up in user profiles.
